Patty Long

We who are members of the adult fellowship class at St. Paul ’s are very fortunate to have for a teacher Dr. Patricia Long, Professor of Education at Malone College . Patty, as she is better known to all of us, has inspired us to treasure God’s word and to live lives that give glory to His name. We asked Patty to share a few thoughts about her life and teaching at St. Paul ’s:

I Came to know Jesus Christ as my personal savior as a child.

I’ve had the wonderful privilege of being reared in the church by godly parents who often talked about the importance of living a life that pleases and honors the Lord Jesus.

Even as young as 14 years of age, I taught backyard Bible classes for children during the summer and I've been teaching ever since!

Currently I am a full-time Professor of Education at Malone College .

It is a wonderful opportunity and privilege to lead a Bible class on Sunday mornings at St. Paul 's that has as its priority an in-depth examination of the scriptures with practical application for daily Christian living. The Fellowship Class, as it has been named, is a well-attended, multi-age adult class that eagerly meets to study the Word of God each Sunday morning. Examples of the studies the Fellowship Class has undertaken include: I and II Corinthians, Hebrews, Job, the Minor Prophets, Philippians, James, and presently selected Psalms.

The Psalms we have been focusing on have been a tremendous source of encouragement and comfort. The various psalms have been a reminder of God's faithfulness and the need for our corresponding response in faithfulness to God.

My "life verse" is Gal. 2:20.  "I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

My favorite hymn is "Great is Thy Faithfulness," which has as its focus Lamentations 3:22-23: "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

Please join us in The Chapel in the Education Building Sunday Morning at 9:15!

Fellowship Class Project

The Fellowship Sunday Class has had an on-going project for over thirty years.  The class takes up a free-will offering the first Sunday of every month to purchase electric shavers for the male clients at the Heartland Behavioral Healthcare Center (former state hospital).  After the December collection is taken the shavers are purchased and taken to the Center.  Each new client gets a shaver to keep for his own.  In 2002 sixteen shavers were purchased. A special thank you to Shirley Tasseff for doing the buying and delivery for this wonderful outreach!
